Mentor Coordinator Report

Stories & Quotes To Share:
Can my mentor just come with?
As a coordinator I have noticed that when matches get established and a rapport is built students rarely want to miss their time with their mentor and will do anything to be able to keep their regular weekly meet-up. At the beginning of the month juniors and seniors got to paint their names on the cement at their parking spot. Instead of canceling the match for the week the mentee asked, “can she just come help me paint?” So, that is exactly what they did. Technically the mentee painted and the mentor observed and read a script aloud. It was the best of both worlds. They got to spend time together, and complete the project.

Can I have a mentor?
Matches at LC have been slow to grow and some years are bigger than others, but this month I had a student come in and ask for a mentor. His friend has had a mentor for several years now, and this student is looking for a mentor similar to his friend’s. When I asked him, “What are some qualities you want in a mentor?” his response was, “Someone like John.” John Rozeboom has been a longtime mentor with BTO at various schools, and this student is looking for someone like him! Someone who is mature, a good conversationalist, has a sense of humor, and likes to play cards or games. The search is on!

Highlights:
Things are going smooth at Lynden Christian. All matches are meeting at their regularly scheduled times. We have a few matches that are only able to meet every few weeks because of scheduling conflicts for the student, But they are happy to still have the consistency of their mentor on scheduled days as well as utilizing the text bridge in the moments between matches. I am hoping to cycle through the health and/or Bible classes to see if any additional students are interested in having a mentor. I have a couple of female mentors waiting to be matched, and a couple men that would make great mentors as well for the right student.
