“Thank you, I love you, I will see you later”

Due to an unexpected move, a mentor-mentee match had to wrap up their mentoring relationship. With limited time, we facilitated a virtual goodbye, allowing them to exchange heartfelt letters. The mentee expressed gratitude for their mentor’s guidance, signing off with a touching, “Thank you, I love you, I will see you later.”

Money Talks

Over a game of monopoly, a mentor and mentee were talking about budgets and finances. Who knew a middle school student would be interested in that discussion!  The mentee was losing the game but winning some good advice for money. Last spring, they had discussed how the student could save money over the summer break.  This fall, the student was pleased to share that they hit their savings goal. Now they are excitedly talking about how to do it again next summer.

Highlights:
October flew by! I have new posters up in the school and I have developed a lesson plan for the health classes. I have reached out to a lot of individual students and been able to work with the counselors, to find students who have already been integrated into the program. I am setting up posters in the community, and a few mentors took posters to hang up in town. I am meeting with the Leadership class next month to talk about mentoring.

Goals
I have a few goals for November. One is setting up automatic systems for my computer and documents. I have already set up automatic emails and texts to send to staff and mentors.  My goal is to make a simple program that can print reminder slips for students and teachers.  This will ensure that even if I am out sick things will continue to run smoothly.   I am meeting with the leadership class next month to help develop their own mentoring skills.
